Cat Digital - Data Scientist
For Caterpillar, digital means using technology to extract data from our machines and engines and transform it into valuable recommendations and insights to help customers make better, more informed decisions and help Caterpillar make robust products with the lowest total ownership cost. Our products generate and process large amounts of data from sensors, onboard models, and control algorithms in real-time creating real-world machine usage information to provide condition monitoring and fleet management services.
About this Role
As a Data Scientist, you will develop analytic solutions specifically for Electrification initiatives within Caterpillar. This work spans across both machines and site planning. The role involves developing, within Python, the features and solutions to support Caterpillar's digital electrification initiatives. You will do hands-on coding, analysis, verification and present your results to the internal and external team.
What you will do
  • Hands-on coding, primarily with Python, with a strong focus on developing scalable and production level code.
  • Directing the data gathering, data mining, and data processing processes and creating appropriate data models
  • Leading to define requirements and scope of data analyses, presenting and reporting possible business insights to management using data visualization technologies
  • Conducting research on data model optimization and algorithms to improve effectiveness and accuracy on data analyses

What you will have - skills and experiences
  • Programming Languages: Knowledge of basic concepts and capabilities of programming; ability to use tools, techniques and platforms to write and modify programming languages
  • Accuracy and Attention to Detail: Understanding the necessity and value of accuracy; ability to complete tasks with high levels of precision.
  • Analytical Thinking: Knowledge of techniques and tools that promote effective analysis; ability to determine the root cause of organizational problems and create alternative solutions that resolve these problems.
  • Query and Database Access Tools: Knowledge of data management systems; ability to use, support and access facilities for searching, extracting and formatting data for further use.
  • Requirements Analysis: Knowledge of tools, methods, and techniques of requirement analysis; ability to elicit, analyze and record required business functionality and non-functionality requirements to ensure the success of a system or software development project.
  • Business Statistics: Knowledge of the statistical tools, processes, and practices to describe business results in measurable scales; ability to use statistical tools and processes to assist in making business decisions.
  • Machine Learning: Knowledge of principles, technologies and algorithms of machine learning; ability to develop, implement and deliver related systems, products and services.

Top candidates may also have
  • Bachelor's degree in data science or related field
  • Minimum cumulative GPA requirement 3.0/ 4.0 (no rounding)
  • Strong accountability, planning/organization, and teamwork
  • Must have demonstrated analytical skills and the ability to perform complex assignments
  • Requires a self-starter with strong technical skills
  • Must have ability to communicate technical information effectively with team members and others in the work group, as well as employees in other business units, customers, and suppliers.

  • Domestic relocation assistance is available for this position, dependent on relocation qualifications

Summary Pay Range:
$79,800.00 - $119,760.00
Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
